VPN or Virtual Private Networks are becoming more prevalent in Australia. Especially now that new laws have been introduced where “every phone call you make, text message you send and email you write will be tracked by the government under a new metadata retention scheme.”
Here are a few great reasons to have your own VPN.
- They can be used to connect securely to a remote network via the internet.
(Many companies have VPN’s so that their employees can access files and other resources without compromising secuity.)
- Useful for connecting multiple networks together securely.
Especially handy with multiple servers and networked resources.
- Online privacy.
If you’re concerned about your privacy or the security of your connection a VPN will encrypt your internet traffic.
- a VPN is a good way to get around regional restrictions.
Also known as geoblocking.
Which is great if your countries Netflix doesn’t have a show you want to watch, which maybe another country does.
(Which is stupid! why bother having different content for different countries? I don’t wanna pay the same amount as Americans do to get less than an 8th of the content!)
And with the new laws giving the green light to right holders to chase down individual pirates, now might be the time to check out your own VPN.
Some VPN sites are already being blocked from view in Australia. But apparently you can always just build your own.
